Basically if you can invent away to decentralize the internet they will reward you with three million dollars. You have design it and build it. Fun right? Wellllll here's the thing:The internet is literally already decentralized. Yeah you heard me. The internet is not controlled by a central authority. North Korea, China, and other authoritarian countries use yours and their peoples ignorance to make you believe they can censor the internet and that is true but only to a point. VPNs are hella shady but they can mask your ip address so you can circumvent region locks. Thats about all they can actually do most of their promises are fluff for the uneducated. VPNS are preventing censorship for those that know how to use them and can afford one.The internet cannot be powered, contained within, or all the information it contains be held by any one computer or server farm, it is literally impossible. All computers online are both the start and endpoint. (Look up this terminology for a nice and easy flow chart). Your computer powers and stores the internet and your computer and your computer and so on. This is why there is no such thing as total internet security or privacy. This being the case, what Mozilla actually wants is to decentralize the signals the internet is broadcast on. This can be done and in fact Elon Musk and other companies such as Facebook and Microsoft are trying to do just that. The overall goal is to create Solar System wide internet. From Mercury to Pluto possibly further there will be internet. This will not necessarily decentralize the internet's signal, and it may or may not provide the whole of Earth and the Solar System with free internet. That remains to be seen. The idea is not at all impossible either. Also has anyone ever sent anything to explore past Sol seems like we always head for Pluto. Lets head for Mercury and Sol and beyond for once.Okay end of tech rant. Wanted to call out Mozilla who should know better on their bullshit. via /r/technology https://ift.tt/2AO99rA
