The ultimate potential of nanobot technology

Ever since I watched the movie Transcendence with Johnny Depp, I've been obsessed with nanobots. If we really had bots that could reproduce themselves from pollutants in the air and purify water or build structures, then the movie barely began to cover their potential.I think almost all of mankind's problems would be solved by such technology.Criminals could be stopped in their tracks, otherwise fatal wounds could be repaired, crops could be protected and nurtured for perfect yields, shelter could be erected for the entire homeless population overnight, impoverished regions of the world could be given sustainable energy and clean water.DNA could be repaired, telomeres replaced, our brains kept in optimal condition...if death couldn't be delayed indefinitely, the technology could certainly result in life spans unprecedented in known organisms. It all seems feasible to me, but what do you think? Do nanobots really have this much potential? What other cool things do you think they might be capable of? Daydreaming about it makes me think all resources and scientists in the world not devoted to nanotech are being wasted. via /r/technology https://ift.tt/3dxvuHn
